Here is the Wado Ryu mokuroku recently commissioned by Hull Zanshin karate club. 

We also produce a couple of Shotokan versions and even a Wing Chun Jo Fen. 

We are also happy to work with any style to produce a custom version to suit your needs.

Karate kata syllabus boards - Mokuroku

We were excited to launch our range of  karate syllabus boards in Shotokan and Wado ryu formats. We worked with senior instructors in each style to develop the boards to represent an accurate mainstream list of each ryu's kata. We are aware that there are many variants within each ryu and so each board can be customised for a particular Association.

We are happy to produce totally custom mokuroku if required, but we are also interested in expanding the range into further styles. 

If you practice a mainstream style that is not currently covered, we will review if we can pick up all of the initial development design and costs. Hopefully it will lead to further sales in your style in the future.

In this layout we have the 15 Wado ryu kata, the overall size is 865 x 266mm.

Chosen kana / kanji

We extensively research and selected what we believe to be recognised kana / kanji for each kata. Many kata borrow the name from the Okinawan name, which also might use a weapons name, the Fuzhou language, Southern Min (Fujian) language or go further back and use the Chinese standard language.

We use translations that are verified over a number of sources, but there are many other translations used. So if your group uses a different set of kanji for a name or uses the katakana we are happy to customise to your requirements.

So this is our version of a scroll (Makki) mounted in a curved black aluminium frame with a clear plastic protective face. The frames are drilled for fixing to the wall and the scroll and the plastic film is just clipped back into the frame. This is the same framing material we used for the modular curved nafudakake (members name boards).

Shotokan kata Mokuroku

We are excited to launch our range of  karate syllabus boards and for Shotokan we have available a number of formats;

The Shotokan Mokuroku - Traditional layout - Maple in black wooden frame

Above is the traditional format board with an overall size of 785 x 415mm.

We have used the title Shotokan karate-do, but you have the option to change this to a dojo or association name and / or add a logo.

The kata name only appears once with the levels / variants below

If your group for example does not practice Ji'in the kata can be removed.

In the long layout we have placed the 26 Shotokan kata the overall size is 1435 x 266mm.

Magic Mokuroku - Hakkoryu Jujutsu

 After many, many hours we are getting to the end of this project, a small amount of finishing fitting mirror plates etc and it will be ready for shipping. 

Very happy with the results of the strong contrast of the kanji on the maple, wrapped in the ever popular black frame. 

Our customer was a bit limited for wall space in his dojo so they have been scaled down and custom made to fit. As always we specialise in custom. 

The Syllabus boards were for a Hakkoryu Jujutsu dojo in Texas and covered the Shodan to Yondan syllabus. each board was broken down into Suwari, Han Tachi and Tachi waza. The kanji for the boards was supplied by the client in a frmat that could be imported into our software package, after that the font was changed to a script type font and carefully positioned.

 We plan to launch a range of kata Mokuroku / Kyoka for karate ryu at the back end of next month with an exciting "give away" planned, so keep dropping by.

Dojo Mokuroku - syllabus boards

Over the last few years we have had a few inquiries from Ju Jutsu and Aikido dojo regarding displaying dojo rules or syllabus ; for ease going forward I will use the term Mokuroku.

Up until now we have not been in a position to progress the inquiries past initial stages so we thought we would enter into a bit of research over the winter months to put us in a better position in the future.

We have come across a number of terms used, so I thought it might be an idea to explore these first.
Kyoka (curriculum board) - I believe Kyoka translates to permission or authority
Menkyo (Licence) used in the classical dan grading system
Densho - A set of Makimono (Maki)
Maki - scrolls
Mokuroku - syllabus or catalogue

We have prepared three graphics to give you an idea of  the sort of end results that could be achieved.

The scrolling image is above is our representation of Yamaoka Tesshu's Niju Kun. He was the founder of the Itto Shoden Muto Ryu which was a kenjutsu style.

The second mokuroku is our representation of just the first board of a dojo mokuroku. It includes the name of the Association and the kata name and the fourty-three moves from hitotsugachi (one-victory) through to hari (sweeping away).

The final example is again just the first board of a dojo mokuroku covering the Shoden (beginning transmission) It details Yawara (hand arts) and covers the twenty basics from katate hazushi (outside wrist grab release) to hagai shime (full-nelson escape)

Our specialty is in graphic design, layout and manufacture of your mokuroku. We do not offer a translation service as content is very detailed. You will need to supply us with an electronic copy of the contents, ideally in "Word" or similar. We can not work from Jpeg or picture images.

A guide to costings are below, international postage for very long items is very expensive so would need to be quoted on a job by job basis.
